How can it help me?
Counselling can sometimes be painful as we look back at the past or perhaps even daunting as we look forward into the wide open space of the future and the unknown. Sometimes counselling is freeing as you finally get to say how you really think or feel and often there is a “lightbulb” moment when things finally make sense bringing a new confidence. Counselling can help you discover who you are again after abuse or trauma or maybe you need help with managing stress, anxiety or loss, all of these things can be worked on together. Often people come to counselling in a state of overwhelm but we can slowly and sensibly begin to find a new way to cope and live that does not sap all your energy.
Counselling is not giving advice, it is something so much more profound, it is you working out what you need and perhaps why you have felt a certain way. It can be learning how to overcome overwhelming situations or simply growing in confidence; whatever it is, we will work together to find a more positive way for you to live life moving forward.
Life often throws hard things at us but being able to talk (it still seems like a miracle to me that people just feel better for talking) to someone who is trained to listen and help you find healthier coping strategies can be life-changing. At the end of our counselling sessions I would hope that you would have found a new confidence to tackle life in a different way that allows you to find freedom and live life to the full, perhaps like never before.
