Gillian Houghton
People have often said I am easy to talk to, down to earth, kind, a good listener and have a sense of humour. I have plenty of life experience too. I have raised two (now young adults) daughters, have had a career in marketing & advertising and helped run mine and my husband’s business.
I have become a counsellor later in life and am only here as a counsellor due to the wonderful and life-changing experience I had as a client myself. My counselling experience was very healing as someone listened to my life story and helped me make sense of my world both past and present. And, most importantly I was listened to, not judged, given as much time as was needed and then I felt so much better. This is what I now want to help others experience. I want to pass on what I gratefully received myself, something that training alone cannot give, it is the knowledge of what it felt like to sit in the counselling chair myself. I believe that these experiences will contribute to me helping you gain what you need and achieve your individual goals.
You will find me open and authentic and it would be difficult to shock me. I am very enthusiastic about counselling and how it can help. I count it a privilege to listen to peoples’ stories and confidentiality is of paramount importance to me.
