A style to suit
I have a level 5 diploma in integrative counselling gained in London. This means that I am trained in many different aspects of counselling which I sometimes weave together depending on what you the client needs and what the particular issue is. The most important thing, however, is that you are able to trust me. I will be guided by you and who you are and what you would like to talk about.
My main style is “person-centred” which simply means that I will listen, encourage and be my true-self, in order to help you find the answers that you need for yourself. However, I also have other styles that I can use to tailor-make our sessions just for you and your particular needs, personality and challenges.
Other styles I may offer include:-
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) type of approach for particular problems including:- stress, anxiety, insomnia, phobias etc
- SFBT (Solution Focussed Brief Therapy). It is more solution based and positive approach and celebrates your successes and growth within counselling, much like positive psychology
- Psychodynamic/existential. This is looking at how the past effects the present and making sense of your life and your story
- Trauma informed. This is looking at past trauma. Trauma can be from various types of abuse or a one-off traumatic experience including bereavement. This style aims to help you feel safe and emotionally regulated before embarking on talking of the trauma.
- Creative activities to help discover and express thoughts and feelings. Activities may include use of therapy cards, drawing exercises, journalling, nesting dolls, sand tray work (use of miniatures to help express feelings when words don’t help), mindfulness exercises & much more.
- Matters of faith. Sometimes people like to bring God into their thoughts and feelings to help find meaning in their life. Sometimes people have been hurt by the church or those in authority. These subjects are close to my heart and I welcome any subjects around faith either positive or negative.
We can decide together on what style you think might most suit you but the most important thing will be that a trusting and honest relationship is built which will enable you to be yourself and ultimately meet your goals.
